Safety considerations for construction work

Working at a construction site can be extremely unpredictable when compared to other sectors. The nature of construction site hazards will require purpose-built personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimise injury risk and the loss of productivity resulting in time off work. It is vital that provisions are made to equip workers with the right PPE for the task at hand, ensuring a higher level of safety across the board. CONSTRUCTION SITE HAZARDS

Accidents and injury affect the standards of health and safety in construction. According to Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data1, 87% of reported work-related illness and injury cases in the 2017-18 period involved employees, with 76% (372,300 individuals) requiring paid leave and 60% requiring time off work for recovery or rehabilitation. The construction sector is overrepresented, with 59 reported injury or illness cases per 1000 employed persons1 – the highest of any industry.
